Image-to-Image vs Text-to-Image vs Inpainting

Text-to-image starts from nothing. You write a prompt, the model generates an image. Maximum freedom, minimum control — you get what the model decides.
Image-to-image (img2img) starts from an image you already have. The model uses it as a structural guide and regenerates the whole frame according to your new prompt. Redundant description of what is already there eats attention that should be going to the change you actually want.
Match the aspect ratio and resolution. Feeding a 512x768 source into a 1024x1024 generation forces the model to stretch and re-crop, which is where warped anatomy and duplicated limbs come from. Keep the output ratio identical to the input, and scale up in one step at the end rather than generating large from a small source.
Reuse the seed for controlled variations. If a render worked and you want ten near-identical versions with small changes, lock the seed and vary only the prompt. Change the seed and you are rolling the dice again. This is the single fastest way to build a consistent set instead of a pile of unrelated images.
Iterate in small passes. Three edits at denoise 0.3 will beat one edit at 0.9 almost every time. Each pass compounds, and you can stop at the point it looks right instead of overshooting and starting over.

What Goes Wrong
Output looks like a blurry copy of the input. Denoise too low. The model is barely doing anything. Push to 0.4+.
Output is unrecognisable. Denoise too high, or the prompt is fighting the source image. Drop to 0.35 and describe only the change.
Warped hands and anatomy. Usually a resolution or aspect-ratio mismatch between source and output. Match them, then upscale at the end. Inpainting the specific hand is more reliable than regenerating the frame.
Anime restyle keeps producing semi-realistic mush. Your denoise is too low for a style change. Style transfer needs 0.55–0.7 — it is a bigger transformation than a lighting tweak, and low denoise will hold onto photorealistic texture you are trying to lose.
